Sprout · Shallow Bowl

€30,00

Harmonising flavours, finding measure in a nourishing meal.

A 20.6 cm low bowl, 650 ml, for spreading out grains, white beans, roasted vegetables and a little dressing. Its low curved wall lets you take ingredients separately with a fork or spoon, or combine them in one bite.

OrienX draws on the Suwen's invitation to harmonise the five flavours with care. In that tradition, excessive preferences could disturb the body's harmony. Pousse lets ingredients be seen and tasted before seasoning is chosen: a meal with flavour, variety and a sense of measure that can become an everyday practice.

Food traditions and this piece

Five flavours and the care of harmony

In Shengqi Tongtian Lun, the Suwen discusses sour, bitter, sweet, pungent and salty tastes, and the excesses attributed to them. Its invitation to harmonise with care means attending to proportion and the relationships between tastes. Within its traditional account of the body, a dominant flavour can disturb the organs; harmony helps preserve their order. OrienX develops this into a contemporary practice: recognise the flavours of ingredients, then choose how to combine and season them.

Taste first, then choose how to bring flavours together

Prepare grains, white beans, roasted carrots and a little endive separately; offer lemon and herbs alongside. Taste the mild grain, the carrot's sweetness and the leaf's bitterness before choosing how much acidity or salt to add. Pousse's open surface leaves room to spread ingredients rather than stack them, while its curve gathers a little juice. Choose it for an inviting view of the food and the practice of tasting before adding. With Tablée, the same attention moves from a personal lunch to a dish shared with friends.

A practice to try

Roasted vegetables: taste before seasoning

Cook broccoli, cauliflower and squash to a texture you enjoy, then spread them out in the bowl. Taste each before adding lemon, herbs or a little dressing as you wish. Grains and cooked pulses can accompany the rest of the meal. Noticing flavours already present makes the idea of accord an everyday action.
