Garden · Wide-Rimmed Deep Plate

€34,00

A soft texture, care for the person receiving the meal.

A wide-rimmed deep plate with a 350 ml central basin for squash and white bean soup, vegetable purée or a sauced starter. The centre gathers food for a spoon; the rim gives it a generous setting.

OrienX takes inspiration from lightness and softness in shōjin cooking: consider the person eating, and choose suitable cooking, texture and seasoning. Jardin brings that attention to plant-based soups familiar to a European table, giving ordinary vegetables a thoughtful place in the meal.

Give carefully cooked plant soups a place at the table

Food traditions and this piece

Lightness and softness: care in the preparation of food

Sōtō Zen presents lightness and softness among the qualities of shōjin food, with consideration for the diner's health. Softness concerns appropriate cooking and texture; lightness concerns preparation and seasoning that do not weigh unnecessarily on the meal. The intention is to attend to the comfort of the person receiving the food. OrienX draws on this care for pulses and vegetables, choosing texture according to both the ingredient and the person eating.

A soft vegetable soup, from cooking to serving

Simmer cooked white beans, squash and carrots with water until tender; blend or retain soft pieces, then add a little olive oil and herbs. Beans give the soup body and contribute plant protein. With wholegrain bread and a vegetable dish, it becomes part of a plant-based meal. Jardin's central basin gathers a serving to enjoy with a spoon; the wide rim gives everyday ingredients a considered presentation. Use it alone for a starter or small soup, or alongside a main-meal bowl to give each course a clear place.

A practice to try

Make a squash soup you enjoy eating

Cook squash, blend it or keep small pieces, and adjust the consistency with liquid. Taste, season and serve in the centre at a comfortable temperature. Attending to texture, seasoning and temperature makes care for the diner concrete, inspired by the lightness and softness described in shōjin ryōri.
