A creative company, connected to two workshops
OrienX designs its own objects and coordinates their development with two fixed workshop partners, in Jingdezhen and Arita. Our role is to keep the intention, use, and coherence of every collection clear from the first drawing to the finished piece.
WHAT WE DO
Give every object a clear direction
A cup held in the morning, a bowl brought to the table: we begin with the way an object will be used. Its opening, proportions and balance help determine how it feels in the hand and how it sits alongside other pieces.
We develop these observations into an original design and a clear direction for the collection. During development, that direction guides decisions about form and material, so that each detail has a purpose and the pieces work naturally together.
DESIGN AND MAKING
An intention shared, distinct expertise
OrienX sets the design direction and follows the development of each piece. Our workshop partners bring their knowledge of material and making to the drawing, helping turn an idea into an object that can be handled, assessed and refined.
In Jingdezhen, Jiangxi, our partner develops and produces the pieces entrusted to it within its own ceramic tradition. In Arita, Saga, a second partner brings the knowledge and working culture of a different place. Each workshop contributes to the pieces it makes; the two origins remain distinct.
Our role is to bring these contributions together, from discussing samples to approving the final direction, while preserving the coherence of the collection and the character of each piece.
WORKING OVER TIME
A relationship built from one collection to the next
Working with regular partners allows a collection to build on what came before. A reference sample, an adjustment to a rim or a question about balance can inform the next design. The notes and decisions retained through development give each new conversation a useful starting point.
This continuity makes collaboration more precise over time. It helps us understand what to preserve, what to adjust and how an evolving collection can remain recognisably OrienX.
ORIENX, BETWEEN TWO PLACES
Connecting ideas, workshops, and everyday life
The work comes into its own when the objects enter daily life: coffee in the morning, a shared meal, a table arranged in your own way. We seek forms that feel natural to use and sit comfortably together, with enough character to be noticed and enough simplicity to live with.
