ABOUT ORIENX
Two workshops. Two ceramic traditions. One shared attention to everyday life
OrienX creates original objects and develops them with two long-term workshop partners: one in Jingdezhen and one in Arita. We care not only about how a piece looks, but also about how naturally it can be held, placed on the table, cared for, and used over time in France.
OUR STORY
Objects begin with the way we live
OrienX began with a simple conviction: the cup held every morning and the plate placed on a shared table deserve as much attention as objects reserved for display.
Our designs are developed through a dialogue with Jingdezhen and Arita. We do not merge them into a vague Eastern aesthetic; each place keeps its own material language, while every object is shaped for real use.
That is why we look closely at proportion, weight, rim, surface, and the way a piece meets the hand. A design is only resolved when its cultural context, workshop knowledge, and everyday purpose can be understood together.
HOW WE TRANSLATE
Translate, not decorate
We do not reduce “the East” to a motif, nor use tradition as a layer of exotic styling. We begin with form, glaze, gesture, and place: why an object was made this way, what knowledge it carries, and how it can remain meaningful in contemporary life.
OrienX turns that context into clear, approachable information without flattening the differences between Jingdezhen and Arita. Culture is not added after the object as a story; it becomes perceptible when the piece is held, used, served from, and shared.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND ORIENX
Designed together. Made through lasting relationships
Every piece brings together OrienX’s design and product work with the knowledge of our two fixed workshop teams. We discuss the purpose of the object, test how it feels in the hand, and refine the details that affect daily use. Different people work in different places, but take part in the same journey—from an initial drawing and a workshop sample to an object that enters someone’s home.
JINGDEZHEN · ARITA
Two places, two distinct ceramic languages
Jiangxi · China
Jingdezhen
In Jingdezhen, our long-term workshop partner turns OrienX designs into contemporary pieces through a close dialogue around proportion, porcelain, glaze, and use. Samples are reviewed for balance, surface, and the way each form works on a real table, while the city’s ceramic context remains legible rather than becoming a generic visual reference.
Saga · Japan
Arita
In Arita, our second fixed workshop partner brings another relationship with precision, surface, and the table. We work within that specific ceramic language while adjusting scale, touch, and function for contemporary daily life, without dissolving Arita into a generalized image of Japan.
FROM THE WORKSHOPS TO FRANCE
From the workshop to everyday life
A piece begins with a drawing and the knowledge of a workshop, but it is completed by use. It should feel natural with morning coffee, a quiet meal, or a table shared with friends—not precious because it must be protected, but meaningful because people choose it often.
To make that choice easier, OrienX explains the origin, materials, dimensions, care, and intended use of each piece. The aim is simple: to help you understand what you are bringing home, and why it deserves a lasting place in everyday life.
